Keylogger is a type of surveillance software. It comes in the category of spyware, and some types of trojans.
As you can guess from the name, Keyloggers are used to get records of every single keystroke.
If an attacker installs a keylogger in the victim device, he can get the record of all keystrokes of the victim.
Keyloggers are very dangerous as it is hidden in the victim Pc, and can send every keystroke to the attacker through which the attacker can get access to your accounts or he can find victims password or credit card information.
The record of keystrokes are stored in a log file, and a keylogger can send this log file to the attacker email or from instant message.
